I am Egyptian and just found this song and I gotta say I love it. I guess in the 70s in America’s black community there was (hopefully) not as much of the sentiment that Egypt should be colonized by them and instead acknowledging its history, multi cultural racial and ethnic history. A lot of the sentiment in today’s discourse and media erases Coptic Egyptians who are the direct descendants of ancient Egyptians bc they are not all black (Egyptians interpret the black part of “black land of the Nile” as black fertile soil of the Nile basin which was a cradle for its civilisation rather than all ancient Egyptians being only of one skin tone like propagandists like to say today) so they could not possibly be native to Africa, which is harmful, orientalist, and very small minded but it unfortunately seems like a loud ignorant minority. At a time like this when a loud (and wrong) minority of black z10 nists use this narrative to support occupation and g3 no ciide of people native to pa l3 sttine, it is refreshing and brings me hope that people with a more decolonized mindset on all sides may one day prevail and maybe even Africans would get along and collaborate against yt supremacy… I really appreciate these lyrics because you can tell they appreciate and are inspired by ancient Egypt but they are not trying to co-opt its history. Very well done.
